Overtime Pay Calculator 2026 USA is a free, advanced and 100% accurate online tool designed for every American worker, HR manager and payroll department to calculate extra earnings when they work more than 40 hours in a week. Under the United States Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) updated in 2026, every non-exempt employee in America must receive overtime pay at 1.5 times (time and a half) their regular hourly rate. Our calculator is built exactly as per the latest federal rules announced by the U.S. Department of Labor in 2026.
Many workers in Texas, California, New York, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania and all 50 states work extra hours but they don't know how much extra money they should get. Some employers miscalculate or don't pay correctly. This calculator solves that problem. You just enter your regular hourly wage, total hours worked in a week, select your overtime multiplier (1.5x or 2x), select your state, and within one second you will get your extra overtime earnings, regular pay, and total weekly pay with full breakdown. It is mobile friendly, no login required, no ads inside calculator, and white background with dark blue theme so it perfectly fits your blog.
This tool is especially useful for hourly workers, warehouse staff, nurses, retail workers, delivery drivers, construction workers, and anyone who does overtime. It also helps HR professionals to quickly verify payroll.
According to FLSA 2026, the standard workweek in USA is fixed at 40 hours. Any hour worked beyond 40 hours in a single workweek is considered overtime and must be paid at time and a half (1.5x). For example, if your regular wage is $20 per hour, your overtime wage becomes $30 per hour. If you work 45 hours, 5 hours will be overtime.
Big Update in 2026: The U.S. Department of Labor has increased the salary threshold for exempt employees. Earlier it was $684 per week, now from July 2026 it is $844 per week, and it will go to $1128 per week in 2027. If you earn less than $844 per week and you are not a manager with hiring/firing power, you are non-exempt and you MUST get overtime. This is a big win for workers.
Also, some states have daily overtime laws. In California, Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Colorado and Washington, if you work more than 8 hours in a single day, you get 1.5x for that day, and more than 12 hours in a day is double time (2x). And if you work 7 consecutive days, first 8 hours on 7th day is 1.5x and after 8 hours is 2x. Our calculator handles both federal and state rules.
There are two main formulas you need to understand:
Formula 1: Overtime Pay Only = Regular Hourly Wage × Overtime Hours × Overtime Multiplier
Formula 2: Total Weekly Pay = (40 × Regular Wage) + Overtime Pay
Example 1 - Texas Worker: John earns $28.50/hour in Texas. This week he worked 52 hours. So Regular Hours = 40, Overtime Hours = 12. Multiplier = 1.5x. Overtime Pay = 28.50 × 12 × 1.5 = $513.00 extra. Regular Pay = $1140. Total Weekly Pay = $1653.00.
Example 2 - California Worker: Maria earns $30/hour in California. She worked 13 hours in one day. Regular = 8h × $30 = $240. 4 hours after 8h = 4 × $30 × 1.5 = $180. 1 hour after 12h = 1 × $30 × 2 = $60. Total for that day = $480. You can see why California needs double time calculation.
Example 3 - Double Time Holiday: If you work on Christmas and your company pays double time, and your wage is $25/hour, and you worked 8 hours, you get $25 × 8 × 2 = $400 for that day.
Our calculator does all these calculations automatically. You don't need to remember formulas.
Time and a Half (1.5x): This is the standard federal overtime rate in USA. 90% of all overtime cases in America are paid at 1.5x. It is mandatory by law for all hours over 40 per week. If your regular is $20, time and a half is $30.
Double Time (2x): This is exactly double your regular wage. It is not mandatory under federal law, but it is mandatory in California for hours >12 per day and for >8 hours on 7th consecutive day. Many private companies in USA also voluntarily pay double time on federal holidays like New Year, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas to motivate staff. Our calculator supports both 1.5x and 2x, plus 1.25x for some weekend special cases.
Knowing the difference can help you negotiate better pay. Always check your offer letter and state law.
- California: Most strict in USA - Daily OT after 8 hours (1.5x), Double time after 12 hours (2x), 7th day rule - first 8h 1.5x, after 8h 2x.
- New York: Follows federal 40h/week rule. But has special overtime rules for hospitality industry, farm workers, and domestic workers. Minimum wage is higher.
- Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina: Follow only federal FLSA 40h rule. No daily OT. Simple calculation.
- Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Colorado: Daily overtime laws exist - after 8h per day is OT.
- Washington State: In 2026 new rules added - agriculture workers also now eligible for overtime after 40h/week.
- Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio: Follow federal but have higher salary thresholds for exempt.
Our calculator asks for your state so you get correct information about your rights.
